Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is well-known for his Twitter activity. After all, he likes it so much that he's attempting to purchase it. That isn't working so well for him at the moment. Regardless, Musk spends a significant amount of time there, frequently responding to Tesla customers who summon him via Twitter, as if he were some strange South African genie.

One of the owners did so, and the South African Genie himself responded. The owner wanted to know if he could increase the Autopilot speed limitations in his Tesla Model 3 with Tesla Vision. The brand's camera-only ADAS technology is called that. The Autopilot software, which is widely recognized, is available across the Tesla lineup, including the Model S and Model Y.

"We'll be here shortly." Unfortunately, Musk's comments on the matter ended there. The Model 3's owner had inquired because he wanted to be able to drive within the speed limit rather than exceeding it. Large swaths of the central United States have some of the highest speed restrictions in the country. Throughout much of eastern Colorado, the official speed limit seldom falls below 75 mph.

Tesla now claims that their new camera-only ADAS system, Tesla Vision, switches off autosteer at 80 mph, while the brand's website does not specify a top speed for other functions, or if this is the actual cutoff. We're guessing it is for the time being. Regardless of how pro-Autopilot you are, having your automobile move at 100 mph on its own would cause most people to stop.

However, it makes us wonder how comfortable consumers would be with a greater peak speed, or whether the program should even be capable of reaching such speeds. Even now, 80 mph is a high speed to have controversial technology like Autopilot perform your work for you. We don't have a release date because Musk hasn't elaborated on the situation of the raised restriction.

Typically, Tesla will notify owners of such modifications via an over-the-air update. We'll be watching the patch notes for these upgrades to see if the cap is increased.
