We can finally tell you all the specifics about the 2023 Porsche Sport Classic, despite the fact that it leaked a day early.
While some have dismissed it as a crass marketing stunt, there are a number of compelling reasons why a Porsche lover would desire one. To begin with, production is strictly limited to 1,250 pieces worldwide, ensuring that you will never lose money on your purchase.
Second, the functional ducktail spoiler pays homage to the early 1970s Porsche Carrera RS 2.7. It also has a bespoke engine and is only Porsche Heritage Design's second car, following the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Edition.
The 911 Turbo S is the basis for the Sport Classic, which has the same widebody configuration.
It gets even more unique from there. The Sport Classic, unlike the Turbo, lacks all-wheel drive and a dual-clutch transmission.
The SC is exclusively available with a seven-speed manual transmission that drives the rear wheels solely.
To avoid tearing the gearbox to bits, the twin-turbo flat-six had to be detuned significantly. Instead of 572 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, the SC's engine produces 543 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. While it lacks the power of the Turbo and Turbo S, it is the most powerful manual 911 Porsche produces.
Ceramic composite brakes, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, rear-axle steering, the Sport Chrono Package, and a model-specific sports exhaust are all standard Turbo equipment on the SC. The front axle spring rates have been somewhat reduced to compensate for the absence of the AWD system.
Porsche boasts that the SC was created with driver enjoyment in mind, and we have little doubt that it will deliver.
The press car shown here is painted in Sport Grey Metallic with light Sport Grey contrasting stripes. Customers can also choose between a non-metallic Black, Agate Grey Metallic, Gentian Blue Metallic, or a custom Porsche Paint to Sample finish.
A fixed spoiler lip and Porsche's LED Matrix Design headlamps in black are other model-specific design characteristics. The double-bubble roof is complemented with a carbon fiber reinforced hood that dips in the middle. The latter is a tribute to the 997 generation's first 911 Sport Classic.
Customers will also receive a white lollipop with a number of their choice and the PORSCHE writing down the sides. The options are limited to one to 99, but they are available at no additional cost.
The wheels, too, are a modern take on the original Fuchs design. They have a center lock hub and are 20 inches wide in the front and 21 inches wide in the back. It comes with 315/30 tires in the back to assist put that power down.
The lack of air intakes on the rear fenders is another shortcoming you may notice. They were eliminated by Porsche in order to create a broad, smooth, and clean surface.
Despite the fact that this is a little adjustment, Porsche had to develop a new intake system. The new ducts that carry combustion air to the engine can be seen beneath the ducktail spoiler. The charge air is still delivered through a grille above the engine.
The inside is equally distinctive. Porsche selected materials that were intended to harken back to the 1960s and 1970s. The Pepita cloth upholstery on the seat centers and door panels is one example. The typical seat upholstery is Classic Cognac semi-aniline leather, but black is also available.
The open-pore dark Paldao wood trim is standard, and it contrasts wonderfully with the light seats. You'll also receive a numbered badge that identifies which of the 1,250 models you possess. The green digits are accompanied by a white needle and scale markings on the analog center tachometer. The Sport Chrono clock receives the same treatment.
If you acquire a SC, you will be entitled to purchase a one-of-a-kind Porsche watch. The Chronograph 911 Sport Classic's dial may be customized to match your car, which is the ultimate power move. The hands of the watch are similarly designed in the same way as the tachometer.
The Porsche Sport Classic will be available as a 2023 model in late 2022. Pricing will be revealed closer to the release date.
